Window treatments can offset cabinetry in kitchen decor

As different functions are served in today's kitchen, a multitude of designs have been developed to carry out those activities. Setting up a small desk area in a corner of the kitchen, for instance, means designing an area that will coordinate with shelving units and won't disrupt the travel patterns needed for food preparation.
"Whether [planning] an extension or an existing room that’s ready for a revamp, make sure that the zones can be realistically accommodated, easily reached and effectively used," according to Essential Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom magazine. "They should be near enough for those present to fluently have a conversation, but not so close that two can’t pass freely between."
While high-gloss finishes such as stainless steel are a leading choice for new appliances, many homeowners are choosing to mix and match different colors for a personalized decorating style.
One way to tie cabinetry into window treatments for windows that fall between cabinets is to install a valance in matching wood tones or woven shades in natural materials. Either can be paired with curtains for a softer, decorative look.
