How to Shorten Bamboo Blinds

Woven wood shades can be shortened when the length is too long. Bamboo shades with liners and edge binding are more difficult than standard bamboo shades such as our Tavarua Basics Bamboo Shades. To shorten standard woven wood shades follow these easy steps:

Measure the height of the existing bamboo shades and record it.
Remove the wooden dowel located at the bottom of the bamboo shades. The bottom of the woven wood shades is wrapped around a wooden dowel and stapled in place on the back side of the shades. Locate the staples and remove them. The wooden dowel should come free.

Determine the amount you would like to shorten the bamboo shades. Use the staring measurement from step 1 and calculated the difference. Measure and mark where the to cut the woven wood shades.

Using a clear super glue, apply at the cut mark and about 1/4 inch above. This will keep the cords from unraveling once they are cut. Allow the glue to dry.

Cut the woven wood shades at the mark between two bamboo slats. Touch up any loose cords with super glue.

Wrap the bottom of the bamboo shades around the wooden dowel and tack the back side of the shades with either staples, small tacks or large head nails.

Hang the bamboo shades and you're done!

Shortening woven wood shades with edge binding or a liner it is more difficult because it requuires adjusting, cutting and sewing the edge binding or liner as well as the bamboo shades.
