Video Description
Day/Night cellular shades combine two fabrics in one shade—typically a light-filtering panel for daytime glow and a blackout panel for sleep-friendly darkness. This guide walks you through a smooth install for both inside mount and outside mount, with specific notes for cordless, continuous cord loop, and motorized models.
What’s in the Box (Typical)
- Headrail with two fabrics and a movable center rail (day/night rail)
- Bottom rail (+ optional handle[s])
- Mounting brackets and screws (and center support for wider shades)
- Valance/cassette or end caps (model dependent)
Tools You’ll Need
- Tape measure, pencil, level, step stool
- Drill/driver with 1/8" (3mm) bit, Phillips screwdriver
- Wall anchors (if not fastening into studs)
- Safety glasses
Before You Start
- Confirm mount type (inside for a built-in look; outside for more light blocking and to cover out-of-square frames).
- Dry-fit the headrail to verify clearances (depth for inside mount; overlap for outside mount).
- For motorized, charge/attach power and keep the remote/app handy.
Inside Mount — Step-by-Step
- Mark bracket locations: Hold the headrail in the opening. Mark left/right bracket positions flush and level at the top; add a center support for wider shades.
- Pre-drill & install brackets: Use a 1/8" bit. Fasten brackets with the provided screws. Confirm all bracket faces are on the same plane.
- Snap in the headrail: Hook the back edge, rotate up, and click into place. Press along the rail to ensure every bracket is fully latched.
- Attach handles: Clip handles at the center of the center rail and bottom rail for level operation.
- Test travel: Slide the center rail and raise/lower the bottom rail. Cycle fully up/down 2–3 times to equalize tension.
Outside Mount — Step-by-Step
- Plan overlap: Add at least 1–2" (25–50mm) per side beyond the window opening; add extra at the top for the headrail/cassette.
- Strike a level line: Use a level to mark the top bracket line. This controls how straight the shade looks on the wall/trim.
- Pre-drill & mount brackets: Use wall anchors where studs aren’t available.
- Seat the headrail: Hook, rotate, and click into the brackets. Verify a secure latch across all brackets.
- Finish & test: Add valance/cassette components (if any), attach handles, and cycle both rails.
Operation Notes by Lift Type
Cordless Day/Night
- Move rails from the center with two hands for even travel.
- To switch fabrics, slide the center rail to reveal light-filtering or blackout.
- If one side sits higher, run full up/down cycles and re-center the handle.
Leveling & Light Control Tips
- Level first: A tilted headrail will show as a light line where rails meet. Shim a low bracket if needed.
- For darker rooms: Consider an outside mount or add side channels to reduce edge light.
- Meet point: Align limits so the center rail sits snug to the headrail when selecting blackout.
Troubleshooting
- Shade lifts unevenly: Move from the center; run full up/down cycles. Check that every bracket is fully latched.
- Gap where fabrics meet: Re-seat headrail, verify level; (motorized) nudge upper limit so rails meet cleanly.
