Video Description
This quick video and step-by-step checklist walks you through installing Bali cordless natural (woven wood) shades with an outside mount. You’ll plan the right overlap, strike a perfectly level line, mount brackets securely, and snap in the headrail and valance for a clean, designer finish.
Why outside mount? Extra overlap reduces light gaps, hides out-of-square frames, and clears hardware or tile—great for bedrooms, media rooms, and tricky openings.
What’s in the Box (Typical)
- Headrail with woven wood shade pre-attached
- Outside-mount brackets (left/right) + center support for wider shades
- Valance with side returns (model dependent) and mounting clips
- Mounting screws; spacer blocks/extension brackets (if included)
Tools You’ll Need
- Tape measure, pencil, 24–48" level, step stool
- Drill/driver with 1/8" (3 mm) bit, Phillips bit
- Anchors/fasteners for your surface (drywall, masonry, tile)
- Safety glasses; painter’s tape for marking
Plan the Outside Mount
- Side overlap: Add at least 1–2" per side beyond the opening; add more for darker rooms.
- Height overlap: Add height so the headrail/valance clears trim and the shade lifts fully and extends past the bottom of the window.
- Projection: Note locks/handles/tile—use spacer blocks or extension brackets if you need extra clearance.
Step-by-Step Installation
- Strike a level line: At your planned top height, draw a light level line across the wall/trim. This controls how straight the shade appears.
- Mark & pre-drill: Hold left/right brackets on the line at your side-overlap marks (and center support if needed). Mark holes; pre-drill if mounting on a wood surface..
- Mount brackets: Fasten brackets snug to the wall or mounting surface. You may need proper anchors depending on your surface.
- Seat the headrail: Place the headrail onto the bracket bolts and secure it with the supplied wingnuts. Make sure they are nice and tight.
- Attach the valance: Secure the side valance returns to the main valance to cover the headrail hiding the hardware and edges.
- First run: Lift and lower from the center of the bottom rail with two hands. Cycle fully 2–3 times to balance the cordless mechanism.
Leveling & Light Control Tips
- Level rules: If the hem looks tilted, re-check the bracket line; shim a low bracket if needed.
- Darker results: Increase side/top overlap or add a privacy/blackout liner if your model supports it.
- Doors: Install hold-down brackets (if included) to reduce sway.
Care & Cleaning
- Dust with a microfiber duster or vacuum gently with a brush attachment.
- Spot-clean sparingly with mild soap and water; avoid harsh chemicals to protect natural fibers.
Troubleshooting
- Shade looks crooked: Verify every bracket level with the other and that the wingnuts are all secure and fully tightened; shim a bracket to correct wall irregularities.
- Uneven lift (cordless): Operate from the center with two hands; cycle fully 2–3 times to equalize internal tension.
- Fabric rubs trim/hardware: Add spacer blocks or shift bracket positions slightly to create clearance.
