Video Description
Follow this step-by-step video and checklist to install Bali Classic Roman Shades with a continuous cord loop (clutch). You’ll place and level the brackets, snap in the headrail, anchor the chain tensioner for child safety, set upper/lower bead-stop limits, and run a smooth first cycle.
Good to know: Classic Romans deliver a clean, tailored fabric look. Choose inside mount for a built-in finish or outside mount for more light coverage and to hide out-of-square frames.
What’s in the Box (Typical)
- Fabric Roman shade pre-attached to headrail (clutch/loop control)
- Mounting brackets (left/right) + center support for wider widths
- Mounting screws; optional valance or end caps (model dependent)
- Continuous bead chain/loop with tensioner device
- Bead-stop(s) for top/bottom travel limits (pre-installed)
Tools You’ll Need
- Tape measure, pencil, level, step stool
- Drill/driver with 1/8" (3 mm) bit, Phillips bit
- Appropriate anchors for your surface (wood, drywall, masonry)
- Small flathead screwdriver (for possible bead-stop adjustments)
- Safety glasses
Before You Start
- Inside mount: Verify minimum recess depth for your headrail. Dry-fit to check clearance around locks/trim.
- Outside mount: Plan 1–2" overlap per side (more for blackout) and extra height for the headrail/valance.
- Bracket plan: Mark bracket faces so they are co-planar (same height/plane) for a smooth snap-in.
Inside Mount — Step-by-Step
- Mark & pre-drill: Center the headrail in the opening; mark bracket locations level. Pre-drill with a 1/8" bit if necessary.
- Install brackets: Fasten left/right brackets (add center support if provided). Keep faces aligned on one plane.
- Seat the headrail: Hook the headrail lip onto the bracket tabs (front or rear, per bracket style), then rotate until each bracket clicks closed. Run your hand along the rail to confirm full engagement.
- Mount the tensioner: With the shade lowered a few inches, anchor the chain tensioner to the frame/jamb so the loop is taut and runs straight. This is required for child safety and smooth clutch operation.
Set Upper/Lower Bead-Stop Limits
- Fully open position: Raise the shade to the height you want beneath the headrail/valance. On the chain side that enters the clutch while raising, position the upper stop so it contacts the clutch/tensioner at this exact spot; snap/close (plastic) or crimp (metal) the stop.
- Fully closed position: Lower to the desired bottom point. On the side that enters the clutch while lowering, place the lower stop to contact at this position.
- Test & fine-tune: Run several cycles. Nudge each stop by 1–2 beads as needed for perfect stopping points.
First Run & Leveling
- Pull the front of the loop down to lower, and the back to raise (or per your clutch’s arrows).
- Check that the hem bar is level. If tilted, re-seat the headrail so all brackets are fully locked and co-planar.
Care & Cleaning
- Dust with a microfiber duster; vacuum gently with a brush attachment.
- Spot-clean lightly with mild soap and water; test in an inconspicuous area first.
Troubleshooting
- No “click” when mounting: Brackets may be out of plane. Re-level and press the headrail firmly until each bracket clicks.
- Chain feels slack: Re-anchor the tensioner so the loop is taut and straight.
- Stops are off: Reposition bead stops 1–2 beads at a time to refine fully open/closed positions.
- Fabric looks uneven: Confirm full bracket engagement; run several cycles to let folds relax. If needed, loosen/re-seat and re-level.
