Video Description
This step-by-step video and checklist walks you through installing a Bali Tailored Roman shade with a continuous cord loop (clutch). You’ll mark and mount brackets, snap the headrail into place, anchor the chain tensioner for child safety, set upper/lower bead-stop limits, and complete a smooth first run.
Tip: Choose an inside mount for a built-in look, or an outside mount for more overlap to reduce edge light and cover out-of-square frames.
What’s in the Box (Typical)
- Tailored Roman shade pre-attached to headrail (clutch/loop control)
- Mounting brackets (left/right) + center support for wider widths
- Mounting screws; optional valance/end caps (model dependent)
- Continuous bead chain/loop with tensioner device
- Upper/lower bead stops (often pre-installed)
Tools You’ll Need
- Tape measure, pencil, level, step stool
- Drill/driver with 1/8" (3 mm) bit, Phillips bit
- Appropriate anchors for your surface (wood, drywall, masonry)
- Small flathead screwdriver (for bead-stop adjustments)
- Safety glasses
Before You Start
- Inside mount: Verify minimum recess depth for the headrail; dry-fit to check clearance around locks/trim.
- Outside mount: Plan 1–2" overlap per side (more for blackout) and extra height for the headrail/valance.
- Bracket plan: Mark bracket faces so they are co-planar (same height/plane) for a clean snap-in.
Inside Mount — Step-by-Step
- Mark & pre-drill: Center the headrail in the opening; mark bracket locations level. Pre-drill with a 1/8" bit.
- Install brackets: Fasten left/right (add center support if provided). Keep bracket faces aligned on one plane.
- Seat the headrail: Hook the headrail lip onto the bracket tabs (front or rear per bracket style), then rotate until each bracket clicks closed. Run your hand along the rail to confirm full engagement.
- Anchor the tensioner: With the shade lowered several inches, mount the chain tensioner to the jamb so the loop is taut and runs straight. This is required for child safety and smooth clutch operation.
Set Upper/Lower Bead-Stop Limits
- Upper stop (fully open): Raise the shade to your preferred top position. On the chain side that enters the clutch while raising, position the upper stop so it contacts the clutch/tensioner at this exact point; snap (plastic) or crimp (metal) to secure.
- Lower stop (fully closed): Lower to your ideal bottom point. On the side that enters the clutch while lowering, place the lower stop to contact at this position.
- Test & fine-tune: Run several full cycles. Nudge each stop by 1–2 beads to dial in your endpoints.
First Run & Leveling
- Most clutches lower when you pull the loop’s front down and raise when you pull the back down (follow arrows on your clutch).
- Check the hem bar for level. If tilted, re-seat the headrail and confirm all brackets are clicked and co-planar.
Care & Cleaning
- Dust with a microfiber duster; vacuum gently with a brush attachment.
- Spot-clean lightly with mild soap and water; test in an inconspicuous area first. Allow fabric to hang fully lowered 24–48 hours to relax shipping folds.
Troubleshooting
- No “click” when mounting: Brackets may be out of plane. Re-level and press the headrail firmly until each bracket clicks.
- Chain feels slack: Re-anchor the tensioner so the loop is taut and straight.
- Stops off by an inch: Reposition bead stops 1–2 beads at a time to refine top/bottom points.
- Fabric looks uneven: Confirm full bracket engagement and run several full cycles. Light steaming with a pressing cloth can help—test first.
