1. Choosing the Right Wood Finish

One of the key advantages of real wood blinds is selecting a finish that complements your interior. The finish you pick can change the entire mood of a room, from rustic to modern.
  • Stain Finishes: Stains enhance the natural beauty of wood, highlighting its unique grains and textures. Choose from lighter stains like pine or deeper tones like walnut for a warm, rich look.
  • Painted Finishes: For a uniform, clean appearance, painted finishes are available in various shades. White or grey real wood blinds offer a crisp, contemporary look that fits perfectly in modern or coastal-style homes.
Why it matters: A carefully selected finish ensures your blinds blend seamlessly with your décor, adding warmth or modernity as desired.

2. Selecting the Ideal Slat Size

Slat size not only affects how your blinds look but also their light control and privacy features.
  • 1-Inch Slats: Ideal for smaller windows, these slats give a traditional look while offering precise light control.
  • 2-Inch Slats: The most popular option, 2-inch slats strike a balance between elegance and practicality, perfect for various window sizes and styles.
  • 2.5-Inch Slats: For a bolder, more contemporary look, wider slats allow more light and give a streamlined appearance.
Why it matters: The right slat size enhances both the appearance and functionality of your blinds, allowing for the perfect balance of light, privacy, and style.

3. Cordless, Corded, or Motorized Operation

How your blinds operate can influence both aesthetics and practicality.
  • • Cordless Blinds: A sleek, child- and pet-safe option with no dangling cords. Simply push the bottom rail to raise or lower the blinds.
  • Corded Blinds: A more traditional option, corded blinds offer reliable, easy operation.
  • Motorized Blinds: The ultimate in convenience, motorized blinds allow for remote or scheduled control, perfect for modern homes.
Why it matters: Whether you prioritize safety, convenience, or simplicity, the right operating system makes your blinds fit seamlessly into your daily life.

Many modern blinds no longer come with exposed cords. Learn more about corded blind safety and current options.

4. Adding Custom Valances and Decorative Tapes

Enhance the look of your real wood blinds with finishing touches like valances and decorative tapes.
  • Valances: These can conceal the hardware and provide a polished, seamless appearance. Valances come in various styles to match your home’s design.
  • Decorative Cloth Tapes: Add a personal touch with decorative tapes that cover the route holes and introduce texture or color to your blinds.
Why it matters: These finishing details allow you to tailor your blinds to your personal taste, adding an extra layer of style.

5. Custom Sizing for Perfect Fit

Whether you have large windows or uniquely shaped ones, real wood blinds can be custom-sized to fit perfectly.
  • Oversized Windows: For larger spaces, blinds can be custom-made on a single headrail to ensure proper coverage and smooth operation.
  • Specialty Shapes: If you have arched or bay windows, custom real wood blinds can be tailored to fit, maintaining consistency in design throughout your home.
Why it matters: Custom sizing ensures your blinds fit perfectly, providing a clean, tailored look without gaps or awkward misalignments.

6. Eco-Friendly and Sustainable Options

For environmentally-conscious homeowners, real wood blinds offer eco-friendly choices.
  • Sustainably Sourced Materials: Choose blinds made from responsibly harvested wood, ensuring your window treatments are environmentally sustainable.
  • Low-VOC Finishes: Opt for natural finishes that reduce harmful emissions while preserving the wood’s beauty.
Why it matters: Sustainable wood blinds allow you to enjoy beautiful window treatments while supporting responsible environmental practices.
